This topic was the spin off of a conversation I had with my fiancee ;) can a hen lay eggs even in the absence of a Rooster? It can ! but how does this bird beat nature..... or is it natural itself for the hen to lay eggs ? This is the answer I got by G000gling.
Hens like humans keep producing eggs ( non fertile ones ). There have some ovulation cycle, humans who domesticated the hen have bread hens which produce bigger eggs. The result is hens which lay eggs more often and hens which lay bigger eggs , chicken eggs are bigger than all eggs produced by other birds of same size.
Hens have a bunch of eggs in there uterus. These eggs are not fertile eggs. Sometimes these eggs are fertilized ( by u know who ) but sometimes are not. Fertilized or not the hen will lay the egg each day during the ovulation cycle.
If humans were selectively bread like this ... what would we have ? egg laying women ;)
